Sport Pilot Training
If you've been dreaming of becoming a pilot, but thought it was too expensive or too difficult – we have news for you! You can become a certificated Sport Pilot in about half the time and cost of private pilot training. And you can command a comfortable, modern, sporty, factory-new, two-seat airplane, and cruise across the country at 125 MPH.
The journey of flying begins with the Sport Pilot Certificate. By receiving your Sport Pilots certificate you will have proven to have mastered the fundamentals of airmanship, navigation, and communication. Probably the most thrilling and satisfying of all the pilot ratings, the Sport Pilot can fly virtually anywhere under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) while taking one passenger along for the adventure.
At Essex Sport Aviation all training and flying is conducted with a safety first attitude. We are dedicated to making you a safe and contentious airman. More so than anything else, safety comes first in the general aviation industry. In fact, safety is the foundation of flight training. Today's training aircraft are engineered and built to rigid federal standards and are constantly checked to make certain they're in ship shape.
Also new technology, like GPS (Global Positioning System), makes navigation safer than ever. Innovations in weather tracking radar and radio communications, combined with the world's most sophisticated and safest airspace system, make today's general aviation aircraft one of the safest vehicles ever invented.
With our safe, fun and easy learning environment you can begin an aviation career as a Sport Pilot and enjoy flying with friends and family as a Sport Pilot. There are no restrictions on how far you can fly as a FAA certificated Sport Pilot at Essex Sport Aviation.
After graduation, you'll have a skill to last a lifetime and the freedom to go places that most people only dream about. Go to the beach or go to grandmas. Expand your weekend playground!

Course Outline- The Making of a Sport Pilot
If you really love it, you can use your Essex Sport Aviation Sport Pilot training and hours as prerequisite towards additional FAA certificates and ratings to enhance your skills in the future. No restrictions.
Your training is organized and efficient in a FAA Approved Course for Sport Pilot training that meets the Minimum training requirements to be eligible for certification in 20 hours. But we don't like to rush things. We give you a flight budget of 25 hours so you can relax and enjoy the training. We want you to learn thoroughly to be a proficient and safe pilot. But you only pay for what you actually use.
First Day: A little paperwork and then the adventure begins. Your training experience starts with a fun and lively pre-flight briefing before being introduced to your training aircraft. Between flights you'll begin studying the Pilots Operating Handbook and materials to help you breeze through the FAA Knowledge exam. You'll return home with homework – but it won't really seem like work.
Stage I Work with your instructor to learn basic skills in realistic, scenario-based, lesson plans. You'll also get comfortable talking to Air Traffic Control while flying in a variety of airspace and airports.
Stage II You're already beginning to feel like a pilot. You talk-the-talk around the lobby. You apply the concepts of GPS, regulations and weather in the cockpit. Earn a Class D endorsement and over 97 KIAS endorsement. You'll be flying solo soon!
Stage III It’s time to see the real utility of the airplane, navigating to beautiful airports around Maryland. You'll also complete the FAA Knowledge Exam at a local FAA Knowledge Testing facility.
Graduation If you've worked hard and completed all the tasks your instructor assigned, then you'll be walking, talking and feeling like a pilot by now. A little more paperwork and you'll meet the FAA pilot examiner.
